Tennis elbow: home physiotherapy

Elbow pain from repetitive use.

How physiotherapy helps

Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) doesn\u02bct only affect tennis players — it is caused by any repetitive forearm use: desk work, tools, cooking. It is a tendinopathy of the wrist extensor muscles. Home physiotherapy is the gold standard for treating it. The therapist applies eccentric loading exercises that have been proven to regenerate tendon structure, cross-friction massage, electrotherapy, and stretching. They also educate you on ergonomic modifications and brace use when needed. Recovery is gradual but effective — the majority of patients fully recover in 8–12 weeks with proper physiotherapy.

Common symptoms

  • Pain on the outside of the elbow
  • Pain when gripping objects
  • Weakness in hand grip
  • Pain radiating to forearm
  • Worsening with repetitive movements
