Recovery after knee replacement or surgery.
Rehabilitation after knee replacement or other surgery is crucial for the final outcome. Home physiotherapy ideally starts the day after hospital discharge. In the first 2 weeks, the goal is pain control, swelling reduction, and safe walking with aids. From the 3rd week, active strengthening begins with closed-chain exercises, patellar mobilization, and progressive loading. At 2–3 months the patient usually walks without aids and has regained 110–120 degrees of flexion. By 6 months, most patients have returned to their daily activities. Consistent physiotherapy plays a decisive role in the final outcome of a knee replacement.
