Recovery after hip replacement.
Rehabilitation after hip replacement is faster than knee replacement but requires special attention to precautions for avoiding dislocation. During home physiotherapy, the therapist educates you on the 3 basic precautions (no flexion beyond 90°, no internal rotation, no leg crossing) and adapts your home to be safe. The program starts with gluteal isometric exercises in the 1st week, progressive walking with crutches, and mobility exercises. From the 4th week the patient usually walks with a cane and starts more intensive strengthening. At 3 months most patients have returned to normal activities with significantly reduced pain. Proper physiotherapy ensures long-term functionality of the prosthesis.
