Recovery after fracture and cast removal.
After a fracture and immobilization with a cast or splint, the limb has lost significant muscle mass, range of motion, and functionality. Physiotherapy is essential for full recovery. During home physiotherapy, the therapist evaluates the limb\u02bcs condition and starts a three-phase program: (1) early phase — restoring range of motion through manual therapy and gentle exercises, (2) strengthening — progressive reloading and activation of muscle groups, (3) functional — returning to daily and athletic activities. Techniques such as cryotherapy/thermotherapy, electrotherapy, water exercises when possible, and specific fine motor exercises for hands are used. With consistent physiotherapy of 6–12 weeks, most patients regain full functionality.
