Pelvic floor: home physiotherapy

Pelvic floor physiotherapy.

How physiotherapy helps

Pelvic floor conditions affect approximately 1 in 3 women at some point in their lives, but it remains a taboo subject. Pelvic floor physiotherapy is first-line treatment with excellent results. During home physiotherapy, a specialized female therapist offers discretion and comfort which are particularly important for these conditions. The program includes: pelvic floor muscle function assessment, proper contraction training (Kegel exercises), biofeedback techniques, stretching, and breath coordination exercises. Education on proper habits (lifestyle modifications) such as fluid management, avoiding excessive pushing, is also provided. With a proper 8–12 week program, 80% of women with incontinence have significant improvement or full recovery, avoiding surgical interventions.

Common symptoms

  • Urinary incontinence during laughing/coughing/exercise
  • Frequent urination
  • Pelvic pain
